Thirsk

Situated in Hambleton, Thirsk is a small market town in North Yorkshire. It is just 20 miles from Teesside International Airport and has links to the rest of the country via the Thirsk Railway Station of the A61 via Ripon. The population of the town is just under 5,000. Thirsk attracts many visitors and holiday makers throughout the year, mainly due to the Thirsk Racecourse and the North York Moors. The race course based at Station Road in Thirsk first opened in 1855 and now is a thoroughbred horse racing venue. The Thirsk Museum and 15th Century of St Marys also attract many visitors each year. Twice weekly the medieval market square hosts an open air market which also attracts both locals and people from further away. The World Of James Herriot Museum is also open at 23 Kirkgate with is dedicated to the veterinary surgeon and author.
