Twinned with Saint Chély d'Apcher in France. Tadcaster is a market town situated just 15 miles from Leeds and 10 miles from York. It is actually the last town on the River Wharfe. The Ark is a major tourist attraction in Tadcaster and in fact is actually the oldest building still in use in the town. Built in the 15th Century it has had many many uses in its long life including a post office, an inn, a museum, a meeting place and most recently the Town Council offices. Back in the 17th Century it was known as Morley Hall and was used by The Pilgrim Fathers as a meeting place before setting off on their journey to America, an exactly replica of The Ark was built in Ohio. Local sport teams are well backed by locals, especially the Tadcaster Harriers running club which has been going for over 25 years.
