Skipton

Known fondly as The Gateway To The Dales, Skipton is situated conveniently on the edge of the Yorkshire Dales hence its popularity amongst visitors to the Dales who use it as a base. Also known as Skipton In Craven the town has a population of over 14,000. The town is close to the junction of the A65 road from Leeds to the Lake District. Links to the town were improved by the £16m Skipton Bypass that was opened almost 30 years ago and then extended by 6 miles a year later. As well as being the birth place of Rick Holden, Manchester City Football Club, Skipton has also been called home by a number of politicians including Iain Mcleod and Joan Humble. Originally built in 1090, the 900 year old Skipton Castle originally built by Robert de Romille, a Norman baron who attracts many visitors to the area each year.
