Saltburn-By-The-Sea

Unsurprisingly with its name, Satlburn-By-The-Sea is a seaside town, it’s situated in the borough of Redcar and Cleveland. Just 12 miles from Middlesborough it has a population of over 6,000. There are a number of attractions in Saltburn including a number of historic Victorian buildings, a renovated pier and a smugglers museum. It also has a water powered cliff lift. Known as the Saltburn Tramway it is actually one of the oldest water powered cliff lifts in the world. It first opened in 1883 and since 1924 has had its water pumps electrically operated. Despite its small size it has a number of famous people that have called Saltburn-By-The-Sea home, these include Chris Rea, David Coverdale and astronaut Nicholas James Mcdonald Patrick. The town is also known world wide for its waves and national surfing events are held during the later and earlier parts of the year in which people from all over the United Kingdom compete.
