Heywood

3 Miles west of Rochdale and with origins dating back to the 13th Century, Heywood is a town filled with history and character. The town was created from a Greenfield site by the father of Sir Robert Peel, originator of Britain’s first police force also called Robert Peel. They have recently revamped the area of the town that surrounds the civic centre. The model Corgi Heritage Centre attracts many people to the town, its an interesting day out for those wanting a trip down memory lane and learn the history of this model corgi toy vehicles that gave Corgi its well loved reputation. There is a weekly Victorian Market and a busy indoor Market on Tuesdays, Fridays and Saturdays which is popular amongst locals. There is also one of the nicest parks in the area, Queens park, this park allows you to combine steep wooded valleys, moorland areas and picturesque countryside.
