Known fondly by locals as "Accy", Accrington is located in Lancashire, around 20 miles north of Central Manchester. With a population of over 35,000 people it is famous for its former cotton and textile industries. Well known amongst art lovers for its museums and galleries it attracts visitors from all over the UK. Its Howarth gallery is particularly well known for its beautiful paintings set in the Edwardian style Tudor house. Accrington is also well known with shopping lovers – with its recent revamp of the whole town centre in recent years it has started to lure shoppers from Blackburn and Burnley and the town centre has never been busier. In fact the town has something to suit everyone, and has another of world famous land marks including the stone railway viaduct, the Town Hall and the Market Hall. A number of celebrities were also born and bred in Accrington Including Mystic Meg, David "bumble" Lloyd and Graeme Fowler.
